My journey with Natural Healthcare began my sophomore year in High School. I injured
my low back rendering me unable able to play football. It was painful and emotionally
frustrating. I tried traditional methods but the symptoms were only covered up and
the source of pain was still present. I knew in my heart there was a more natural
way. My heart was right and led me to Chiropractic. Dr. Toni Dakin showed me why
I was having the pain and was able to help me play sports again. Along with inspiring
me to choose Chiropractic as my profession, she has been a great mentor to me.
I am originally from Iowa. This is where I did all my collegiate studies at NIACC,
Iowa State University, and Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA.
As I began Chiropractic school I had another incident in my life that propelled
me into a world I was unaware of; Clinical Nutrition. As Chiropractic school started
I noticed my health starting to decline. Certain foods caused digestive issues.
Energy levels were lowering and no matter how much I slept, I woke up exhausted.
As months went on things worsened. What was happening to me? I used to be able to
eat anything and be full of energy. How could this be happening to me? Chiropractic
was a dream of mine and my health was going to prevent me from reaching my goals.
All of these thoughts went through my head every day. Again I looked for help with
traditional methods. Nothing helped and the same thought I had back in high school
about my low back came to mind. Isn't there a way to heal naturally?
In a span of about 2 years none of the symptoms went away. They actually worsened.
I had migraines, severe digestive issues, chronic fatigue and achiness. I had numerous
blood tests. I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy. I was given different prescription
drugs to try. They told me I was depressed. I also lost 40 unwanted pounds. My diet
for 2 months straight was only salmon, white rice, and green beans. Foods made me
sick. I would get sick if the person sitting next to me was sick. If they coughed,
I would get the cough. I was taking multivitamins and buying supplements from infomercials.
My kitchen was loaded with cheaply made supplements. Nothing worked. After 2 years
of living with this I was going to drop out of school. I had my dropout slip signed
but my heart told me to hang in there for one more semester.
Thankfully I listened to my heart. The next 2 years were so exciting for me. A colleague
of mine introduced me to Natural Healthcare Practioners implementing Chiropractic,
Clinical Nutrition, and NET (Neuro Emotional Technique). Clinical Nutrition was
a natural solution to all the health problems I was experiencing. I learned about
the negative effects of Candida, parasites, bacteria, viruses, chemicals, pesticides
and heavy metals in the human body. I learned how people are exposed to toxins daily
and are overlooked.
I have traveled to Phoenix, San Diego, Los Angeles, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas,
Austin, Houston, and Tampa Bay to learn from some of the greatest practitioners
who have been implementing natural techniques for 25 years! I am grateful for every
one of them and their dedication.
Chiropractic, Clinical Nutrition, and NET saved my life. My purpose is to help as
many people to live the life they were created to live for. It can happen.
